A tribute to our founder

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that our founder and matriarch Fella Hamilton has sadly passed away, (15 Nov, 2023) peacefully & surrounded by her family in Melbourne, Victoria.

Born in 1925, Fella lived to the incredible age of 97 years old. Until her recent decline in health, Fella remained devoted to the pursuits she cherished, relishing time with family & friends, and visiting our stores and factory to connect with staff and customers who always welcomed her with joy.

Fella was an extraordinary woman who navigated significant challenges in her early life in eastern Europe, eventually moving to England & settling in Australia with her husband Heinz. Together, they raised three children, Danny, Ann, and David.

Fella was a remarkable woman; intelligent, vivacious, funny & incredibly stylish. She led an amazing life launching her clothing business in 1969 when Fella was 43 years old and proudly worked in this business into her late 70s, officially retiring some 20 years ago, leaving the business in the capable hands of her daughter & son.

Believing strongly in supporting women in industry, Fella joined the Women’s Electoral Lobby (WEL) in the late 1960s, which eventually led to her feeling confident in creating her own business we know & love today.  It’s incredible to think that it all started with a Terry towelling turban. We owe all that we are today to this woman of energy, determination and to the vision she had to achieve all that she did. She was forever passionate about supporting women and helping them to feel confident & fabulous.

Over the years Fella became a mother in law to both Michael & Sharon, and a proud grandmother to Jason, Toni, Vicky, Joel, Dana & Charlie as well as great grandmother to Goldie & Summer.

Fella had two great loves in her life; Heinz Hamilton (dec. 1988) & Richard Harbig (dec. 2011).

We bid farewell to Fella with a deep gratitude for her passion, determination, dedication, and love. Her memory and namesake will be an enduring testament to the impact she had on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
